Mitsuro Hikime is a unique blended wax, an ancient art form, dating back more than 1300 years in Japan. It was mostly used in sculpture, later enjoyed by jewelry artists and jewelry lovers in some parts of Japan. Miyata Kohei was the first jewelry artist applying this technique in jewelry making. Mitsuro Hikime roughly translates to honey (mitsu) wax (ro) drawing (hiki) texture (me).
Lost wax casting is a well-known process in the jewelry industry, but Mitsuro Hikime is unique because it must be warmed slowly with your hands to become malleable. After pulling, stretching and folding the wax into itself, it forms unique striations. This mesmerising wax process allows you to create beautifully flowing sculptural forms with a distinctly organic texture.
Anna has become a Mitsuro Hikime expert lately, studying with a Japanese master, and was the first to teach this technique both in Australia and Hungary. Anna is one of the few jewelry artists in the world regularly creating jewelry using Mitsuro Hikime. She has developed her own wax recipe and honed her skills over the past few years. Her extraordinary pieces don't follow any kind of fashion line, they are rather independent, edgy and uncategorized.
